My Cavalier has very bad hip dysplasia (bone against bone) since birth, bad back and bad neck. The Vet prescribed Rimadyl. Winston has been taking it for a total of 6 years. We stopped for a while to try something else but went back to Rimadyl which works better. If Winston didn't have Rimadyl he would be in a lot of pain. With Rimadyl we cannot tell his hips are as bad as they are till we look at the xrays and occasionally he will show a tinge of pain. He goes on walks, trots around the house, even runs full out. It has not affected his kidneys. It's important to periodically check bloodwork but I highly recommend you ask your Vet about Rimadyl. Allivet has great prices on it so get script from Vet and order from Allivet.

My dog has had hip dysplasia for many years. I contemplated surgery initially. I was told about Rimadyl and within 3 days he was almost pain free. I have him on half the recommended dose with good results for several years. Because his pain levels decreased he was able to exercise more and build muscle in his legs which extended his life. Rimadyl has been know to cause liver issues so half the dose worked well for him.
