Atenolol treats hypertension (high blood pressure) in pets. It can also be used for coronary artery disease-related chest pains or for regulating and slowing specific kinds of tachycardia (abnormal rapid heart rate).

The most frequently reported adverse reactions include:
Rarely, allergic reactions may occur. The signs of an allergic reaction include swelling, difficulty breathing, or rash. If these or any other symptoms occur, immediately contact your veterinarian.

- Low blood pressure
- Slow heartbeat

- Pets with heart failure
- Hypersensitive pets (to any drug in this class)
- Gastrointestinal ulcers
- Heart conditions
- Asthma
- Diabetes
- Significant kidney disease
