Product Overview

Cerenia (maropitant citrate) tablets are a prescription medication used to prevent acute vomiting and the prevention of vomiting due to motion sickness in dogs.
Cerenia is prescribed to dogs for prevention of acute vomiting or vomiting caused by motion sickness. It is the only FDA-approved treatment for vomiting in dogs.
For dogs ages 16 weeks and up.

Cerenia:
  • Is an antiemetic containing maropitant citrate
  • Prevents acute vomiting by blocking substance P, which is a vomit-triggering compound

  • Diarrhea

Cerenia should not be administered to dogs under 16 weeks old or those with hypersensitivity (allergy) to maropitant citrate. Cerenia should be administered with caution to dogs with a history of liver problems.
Cerenia is sold in strengths of 16 mg, 24 mg, 60 mg, and 160 mg. Each blister pack contains 4 tablets.
Zoetis
Cerenia should be administered with a small amount of food (but not a full meal) two hours prior to travel. Do not use fatty foods, such as meats or cheeses, to wrap the tablets. This could prevent them from dissolving, delaying Cerenia's effect.
For motion sickness, this medication can be given once a day for up to two days in a row and 2 hours prior to travel. Dogs should not be fed 1 hour prior to giving Cerenia. 

Administer Cerenia orally once daily for up to 5 straight days at a minimum dose of 2 mg/kg (0.9 mg/lb) body weight.
The active ingredient of Cerenia, maropitant citrate, comes in strengths of 16, 24, 60, and 160 mg.
