EQUIOXX® (firocoxib) is the first and only coxib class NSAID approved to control pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis in horses (also called degenerative joint disease). One dose lasts up to 24 hours and works to improve mobility. EQUIOXX has been thoroughly tested on more horses in safety studies than any other NSAID. For easy, accurate dosing, EQUIOXX is available as an appetizing paste or tablet. Note that EQUIOXX requires a prescription from your veterinarian.
EQUIOXX® (firocoxib) is indicated for use to control the pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis (degenerative joint disease) in horses.

EQUIOXX is the only coxib class NSAID that is approved for use in osteoarthritic horses to control pain and inflammation. One easy-to-administer dose lasts up to 24 hours. The drug has been tested on more horses in safety studies that any other in its class. EQUIOXX is available in a palatable oral paste or tablet.
EQUIOXX® (firocoxib), a coxib class NSAID, targets COX-2 (cyclooxygenase-2), which is
part of the chemical pathway resulting in pain and inflammation, while s/paring COX-1
(cyclooxygenase-1). It helps to maintain normal bodily functions, including blood flow to the kidneys
and gastric mucosal protection.*1-4

The most common side effects associated with EQUIOXX® (firocoxib) therapy involve the
tongue, lips and skin of the mouth and face (erosions and ulcers of the mucosa and skin) and
the kidney. Gastrointestinal, kidney and liver problems have also been reported with other
NSAIDs.

Horses should undergo a thorough history and physical examination before initiation of NSAID therapy. Appropriate laboratory tests should be conducted to establish hematological and serum biochemical baseline data before and periodically during administration of any NSAID. Treatment with EQUIOXX® (firocoxib) should be terminated if signs such as inappetence, colic, abnormal feces, or lethargy are observed. See package insert for full information.

EQUIOXX® (firocoxib) Tablets can be used at a dosage of 0.045 mg/lb (0.1 mg/kg) body weight for up to 14 days of treatment. The recommended dosage of EQUIOXX Tablets is one 57 mg tablet, for oral administration in horses weighing 800-1300 lbs, once daily for up to 14 days. The overall duration of treatment with any firocoxib formulation in horses, including EQUIOXX Oral Paste or Tablets will be dependent on the response observed, but should not exceed 14 days. EQUIOXX may be given with or without food. Please see package insert for additional information.
