Fluoxetine is a treatment for separation anxiety and should be used as part of a behavior modification plan.
Fluoxetine works in brain chemicals that can cause obsessive-compulsive behavior, anxiety, panic, or depression.
It should be understood that when anti-anxiety drugs are used, a phenomenon known as "disinhibition" could occur. This means that inhibitions around aggressive behaviors could be reduced when anxieties over behavioral consequences are removed. A pet that had no prior tendencies toward aggression could become aggressive.
The most commonly reported adverse reactions are lethargy or drowsiness.
Other potential reactions include reduced appetite or upset stomach.
