Be sure to discuss any side effects your pet experiences while taking gabapentin with your veterinarian immediately. The most common side effects of gabapentin are sedation, dizziness, and loss of coordination. Topical preparations containing gabapentin (such as transdermal gels, ointments, creams, etc.) may also cause irritation at the site of application.

Overdose of gabapentin may cause more severe reactions similar to those listed previously in the side effects section. If you suspect your pet or another animal was accidentally overdosed or has eaten this medication inadvertently, contact your veterinarian or the A.S.P.C.A.'s Animal Poison Control Center at 888.426.4435. Always bring the prescription container with you when you take your pet for treatment. If you or someone else has accidentally ingested this medication call the National Capital Poison Center at 800.222.1222.
Keep gabapentin and all drugs out of reach of children and pets. Gabapentin is a prescription drug and should be used according to your veterinarian's directions, and it should only be given to the animal for which it was prescribed. Do not give this medication to a person. Gabapentin should not be given to animals that are allergic to it, or drugs like it. Gabapentin should be used with caution in animals that have kidney disease, or in animals that may be pregnant. Do not give your pet antacid medications within two hours of administering gabapentin.
