Product Overview

Tapeworm Dewormer for Cats is an easy-to-administer tablet that uses praziquantel to remove the common species of tapeworms, including Taenia taeniaeformis and Dipylidium caninum).
For use in kittens (ages 6 weeks and up) and cats.
Features of Tapeworm Dewormer for Cats:
  • Approved by the FDA
  • Does not require a prescription
  • Easily-administered tablets may be crumbled into your cat's food
  • Works to remove common types of tapeworm (Taenia taeniaeformis or Dipylidium caninum)
The liver absorbs and metabolizes praziquantel, and it is excreted through the bile. When it enters the digestive tract, the cytocidal action of the drug causes tapeworms to lose their ability to resist host digestion. Because of this, whole tapeworms can rarely pass completely through the digestive system of a host. Typically, tapeworms are mostly digested, and only pieces of the worms can be found in feces following praziquantel treatment.
Rarely, diarrhea or salivation have occurred after treatment. These symptoms were regarded as insignificant. If you notice either of these symptoms and if the symptoms are persistent, notify your veterinarian.
23 mg Praziquantel per tablet

  • Not for use in humans.
  • Keep away from children.

Dosage and Administration :: Administer orally to cats and kittens (6 weeks of age or older) as follows.

Body Weight (lbs) / Number of Tabs
4 lbs and under     /      1/2 tablet
5-11 lbs                /       1 tablet
Over 11 lbs          /     1 1/2 tablets

Fasting is neither necessary nor recommended. Tablets may be crumbled and mixed with your pets food.

Retreatment : Steps should be taken to control fleas and rodents on the premises in order to prevent reinfection, otherwise retreatment will be necessary. This is especially true in cases of tapeworms transmitted by fleas (Dipylidium caninum) where reinfection is almost certain to occur if fleas are not removed from the animal and its environment. If reinfection occurs, tapeworm segments may be observed within one month of the initial treatment.
Each tablet contains 23 mg Praziquantel

Easy to give my cat and works really well. My husband wraps him in a towel I place the pill in the back of his throat then rub his neck and he swallows it.

All local stores do not sell any tapeworm medicine anymore and have had to resort to the vet to obtain it. Vets want to see your animal before giving the medicine, adding to the bill. Cats are indoor and WILL NOT and DO NOT go outside , no less a vehicle ride which btw is traumatizing to mine two. Being able to order online makes this a much easier process to eliminate this problem.

Bought this product after reading the reviews and I needed a medicine without Rx. Shipment was quick as soon as Allivet got Rx approval for another item that I had on the same order. Allivet definitely has the lowest prices. The tablet was easy to crumble and mix in with wet food. However, my finicky cat smelled the medicine and won't eat the food. So I cannot tell how effective the dewormer is. It's probably easier to buy a Rx dewormer that can be administered through the skin like flea meds.

This killed my precious kitty! She weighed 7.5 pounds, so I administered one tablet. She wheezed and ran around the house, started frothing and convulsing.. I immediately took her to the animal ER. I tried breathing into her but it was too late, within minutes she was dead in my arms. It's very rare that cats will choke on tablets, and it's rare that they will have a bad reaction, but it does happen! I wish I could have saved her :-(
