Famotidine Injection is veterinarian prescribed medication use to treat cats and dogs experiencing gastric, intestinal, or stomach ulcers. It can also provide relief for dogs experiencing kidney failure and its related inflammation of the stomach and gastric reflux. This medication is a generic form of Pepcid.
Famotidine is a prescription for dogs and cats primarily used in the treatment of stomach (gastric) and intestinal ulcers.
Famotidine Injection is intended for cat and dog use only.
Famotidine Injection works by:
- Helping with the healing of your pet's ulcers
- Aiding in treatment of kidney failure related inflammation of the stomach
- Helping with symptoms of gastric reflux
Famotidine is an anti-ulcer medication. It is part of what is known as the histamine receptor-2 blocker class. The stimulation of stomach cells and their cell membranes occurs because of H-2 receptors, which leads to gastric acid secretion. Ulcers are able to heal using this medication, as it prevents the secretion of gastric acid through the H-2 receptors being blocked.
In some animals, Famotidine may cause side effects. In animals with allergy or hypersensitivity to this medication, do not administer it. Animals that have liver or kidney disease should be prescribed this medication with an abundance of caution.
